Rogerian Argument

Introduction of the problem
Community when you think about it, is a very important thing and it can really have a huge effect on people’s lives believe it or not. Depending on the circumstances it can turn someone into something you wouldn’t have expected before you even know it. One thing that has a huge effect on community is poverty. Poverty in a community is one of the most common reasons why some people end up like the way they do because they are brought up around nothing but poor structured households and they don’t really have anything or anyone to guide them and teach them the right from wrong. Children that are raised or brought up around communities that are dealing with poverty issues tend to get in more trouble and commit crimes then children that are raised in a stable community. In early childhood, it is estimated that approximately one in four children in the US (National Center for Children in Poverty 2014) and one in two children worldwide live in poverty (globalissues.org 2013). Studies indicate that young children living in economically disadvantaged environments often begin school with fewer basic academic and social–emotional skills (Bernier et al. 2010; Magnuson et al. 2004; Thornberry et al. 2009). Additionally, socioeconomic (SES) factors, such as family income, parental level of education, and parental occupation, have been shown to impact language, cognitive, and social– emotional development in children (Kagan et al. 1978; Raver 2004; Roberts et al. 1999; Zubrick et al. 2007). Economic, environmental, and family stressors can result in later achievement deficits that begin in early childhood and compound through the years (Evans and Rosenbaum 2008; Howse et al. 2003; McClelland et al. 2000; SohrPreston and Scaramella 2006)”( Examining Effects of Poverty, Maternal Depression, and Children’s Self-Regulation Abilities on the Development of Language and Cognition in Early Childhood: An Early Head Start Perspective). “As children mature and develop, the quality and quantity of the language they are exposed to strongly influences their cognitive development (Thomas 2005). As a child’s use of language advances, speech plays an integral role in guiding a child’s activities, as well as their behavior (Vygotsky 1934/2012, 1934/1978). Vygotsky emphasized the importance of adult–child interactions for the interrelated development of emotional connections, language, and the facilitation of children’s engagement in symbolic activities and creative play (Thomas 2005)” (Examining Effects of Poverty, Maternal Depression, and Children’s Self-Regulation Abilities on the Development of Language and Cognition in Early Childhood: An Early Head Start Perspective)
Exploration of others position
Although poverty plays a big role in communities and how they affect a child’s life some people think that maybe it isn’t the poverty that makes the children turn out bad. There are many different views and opinions on what makes children act the way they do. It could be because of the things they experienced in the household like rape or abuse that they didn’t speak up about and now it’s having a negative effect on their lives, it could even be because that’s just how they want to be. I remember seeing a video about this thirteen year old kid that always skipped school with his friends and he also stole his grandmother car and drove it around the city and later on ended up crashing it. The grandmother was so shocked by the little boy’s actions because she wasn’t raising him to steal from people and she was always on his behind about doing well and school and making good grades. So she couldn’t figure out why he would be doing these types of things, but when they interviewed the little boy he told the reporter that he “just wanted to do hood rat things with his friends”. So growing up in a bad household isn’t necessarily the only reason that would effect a child’s life when it comes to them having bad behaviors or acting out in bad ways. If people take the time out to actually listen to children and actually pay attention to them then there would be an actual understanding on why children do what they do. For example, my little cousins are bad as heck and they don’t listen to their mother at all but when I come around them they are smiling and want to play around and I think that is because when I’m with them I sit down with them and play the game and play around with them and they just have a good time with me in general. So it’s more of an understanding them aspect rather than them being bad because they are in a troubling home, which is not the case with them at all.
Exploration of writer’s position
Where I stand is that even though poverty in the community is not always the case it seems to be one of the main reasons. Even though poverty effects the whole community you don’t see too many girls acting out or doing outrages things. You tend to see more of the outrageous behavior in boys, study say that boys that are in troubling communities tend to have worst behaviors then boys in a stable community. This is because when they go outside all they have around them are a bunch of bad influences so they just suck in all of the bad influences and it effects them tremendously.
 Conclusion

There are a couple of reasons why I think boys tend to end up worst then girls do. One is because girls don’t go outside as much as boys do so they aren’t influenced by the things that are going on outside like the guys on the corner etc. second is because in most communities with poverty they are single parent homes and most of the time it’s the mother who has to take care of the children so the boys don’t really have that father figure in their life to let them know they the stuff they are doing isn’t the right thing to be doing. And telling them that they shouldn’t want to be a follower they should want to be a leader in life. So I feel like if the fathers would be more in their son’s life to teach them right from wrong they wouldn’t turn out the way they do.

madden

on madden Corey, Dalin, and my self have a franchise that we play. we all have players and we play for the Tampa bay bucs. we are on our second season and we are 11-1 which makes us the top dog of our conference and the first in the playoff bracket, but it wasn't always like that. the first season we lost our first four games and we were yelling and blaming each other o everything that happened. eventually we go it together and started to gain chemistry and made it all the way to the super bowl. Dalin was a little upset though because his player got hurt in the playoff and couldn't play in the super bowl but still ended up winning so he didn't really care as much. every now and then we still blame each other but we all have fun and laugh about it and thats the most important part we can yell at each other and at the end of the day still be cool.

week twelve

In the short film as people started to get inside the elevator they started to turn their own music on to try to tone out the others and then when the big dude with the big radio stepped in the elevator everyone turned their music off expecting the dude to blast everyone elses music away but he plugged up his headphones. The authors purpose was to let people know to not judge a book by its cover. i say this beause sense he was a big dude with a big radio everyone expected him to just drown everyone elses music out but he didnt. The audience that this video was meant for was someone who always seem to judge because what they look like or how they dress, to let the audience know that its not always what it may seem. Three ways this video teaches something about community, one way is how when they all seemed to turn their music on to try to tune each other out instead of being smart and plugging headphones in that goes to shoe you how petty people are, second is when they seen everyone else do it they started do it so that they would be fitting in and not being the outcast, third is when they seen the big dude everyone jumped to conclusions and expected him to play his music out loud instead of being to his self.

spring football

football has put us through a lot of adversity this spring. the first day of spring practice coach Goff said this was basically going to be a remodeling period for our bodies and that is really what it feels like its been times where my body was sore for a whole week but that is okay because when you put in the work you get the results from how much work you have put in. also we have did alot of running this spring and that is to just make sure that we are and shape for the fall even though we go home for the summer it is your job to make sure that you get in shape and stay in shape so that you can preform at your highest ability. we have one more week left and i can see the progress from the lifting program we've been on. our coaches do a great job at make sure we have the proper training that we need to be a beast on the field.

Differences

  • College courses are not direct continuations of high school instruction: what he means by this is that the classes that you take in high school isn't going to be able to properly prepare you for the course that you might have in college just because of the simple fact that all teachers aren't the same and someone cant prepare you for someone else's lesson plan if they don't know them or have took their class before.
  • College work requires new kinds of motivation and self-discipline: when dealing with college work you have to take time out of your day to make sure that you get it done and with good quality answers. It isn't like high school where you get a work sheet and for homework and can have it done by the time you leave the class and still get an A on it. you have to take time so that you can actually understand what you professor is asking of you.
  • Time management: time management definitely is something that is different form high school. you have to be able to judge going to classes, doing homework, eating, trying to join clubs, have fun with friends, and if you play a sport practice and games. its definitely time consuming.
  • Being a Student-athlete: being a student athlete is basically a full time job. you have to go to classes, do homework,do study hours, make sure you eat, go to practice, study your playbook and by the time you look up its 10:30pm and its time to got to sleep. so your working around the clock full time with very little time to your self.
We create these myths because coming to an unknown place where you don't know anyone you try to create this level of comfort for your self. so that is why we create these myths and illusions about college. even though is a way of comfort this is a way of lying to to your self and it isnt helpful because your not going to do it the way that its supposed to be done because you think that your way is going to work and eventually you will see that you will have to adapt and perform to the way your professors are asking of you.

Essentials

Endorsements are an essential part of every professional athlete’s life, especially the big-named, successful basketball players. A lot of people, especially children look up to these known athletes. Big name brand companies sign endorsements with these big-time athletes because it attracts people to purchase their footwear and clothing. Endorsements go much deeper than apparel. We see the faces of many popular icons on different types of products as a form of advertising. These include video games, cell phone commercials, pop bottles, Skull Candy headphones, candy bars, supplemental products and more.  Companies look for more than one’s athletic ability before offering a contract deal.  Talent, reputation, and character are the most essential things for an athlete, and a company to be successful making money, and changing lives.   Not only does the athlete benefit financially, but the athletic apparel companies that have contracts with these popular icons will financially prosper if they have highly respected athletes promoting their company. It is a win-win situation.

Regrets

A regret that I have is hurting my knee in practice, and if I could go back in time I wouldn't have ran the route the way I did because ever since then my knee hasn't been the same. I’ve been to the trainers and they told me that it because of old age that my knee hurts keep in mind that I am only 20 years old so old age can’t play that much of a role in the injury. Usually when someone hurts something you have to at least get a MRI but they told me it’s not that big of a deal. But when I hurt my knee in September and it is now March and it still hurts there is something more to it than just old age. Regret relates to community because when people think about community and if it’s a bad one they try to come up with things that they wish they could do about the bad community.

Money Makers

When most people think of NBA stars the first thing that comes to mind is their success on the court, but what most people don’t pay attention to is their success off the court. Having always been a sports fanatic, ESPN has taught me a lot over the years. Michael Jordan was my biggest role model growing up.  Having wanted nothing more than to be “like Mike” I had to have all of his new apparel, and accessories whenever they were released.  While personally having seen the biggest names in the game advertise for multiple brands, two questions arise. What do successful companies look for in a public icon before signing a contract deal with them to promote their items? Why do these famous athletes help the company make a tremendous amount of revenue?  Multiple NBA stars bring in a lot of money through endorsement deals. As stated in the article The NBA’s Endorsement All-Stars 2014 Badenhausen states “The NBA’s top 10 endorsers pulled down $155 million last year by our count” (Forbes).  Through different forms of endorsements we hear big names such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. A majority of the revenue made by these popular athletes comes from signed contracts with different athletic brands.  For example, every athlete listed except Stephen Curry has a signed endorsement deal with Nike.  Curry is in a contract with Under Armour.

Articles

in the articles the political community is white supremacist. what makes this community unhealthy is that it doesn't have a care for anyone but who is included in that community and its selfish.when people like this get power it is hard to stop them especially because they think that they are already better then everybody else anyway and adding that power to it just makes it worse then what it already was. the course of action that should be taken is that other communities should come together as one to form a huge community so that they have some type of chance to fight against whats wrong that they are doing. if they stay separated that isn't  going to do nothing but lower their chances.

These programs help inspire, uplift and motivate children to overcome challenges, excel academically, and reach their maximum potential. The Wade’s World Foundation has won many Accolades and Honors such as the BET Humanitarian Award and also the NBA Cares season long Kia Community Assist Award 2013.

audience

For the John Lewis Christmas ad i feel like that was more for an audience that is going shopping for  gifts and why i think that is because it was Christmas themed and that is one of the main holidays you buy gifts for someone and also at the end it said get a gift that everyone would love, so its telling people to keep others in mind when you go out to buy something and not to just think about one person.
For the second commercial i think that ii was meant for an audience who is looking for a car that they will cherish and love and why i think that is because you could see that the little boy in the video was very comfortable and relaxed. you could tell that he has done that before because the police said this is the last time. I think that is what Mercedes was try to display the luxury part of their vehicles.
In the third video the audience was anyone who drinks beer  and i think that because they displayed the beer in a wide variety of settings, and what i think budwiser was trying to say is that they are Americas best beer because when the video first comes on it is themed back in the day and someone is holding up a news paper that said war ended and then it takes you through time moving forward showing all of the main things that was going on during that decade. so they was also displaying how long they have been around and peole still drink it.

Bringing home the bacon

As we all know NBA stars make a lot of money by using their tremendous athletic ability. Even though they sign million dollar contracts they also do commercials, adds, and get endorsement deals that also brings in revenue. The one that brings in the most money out of the three is the endorsement deals. The athlete signs a contract deal with a major athletic company to sponsor and wear their brand. These contracts that they sign are sometimes even more then what they’re contracts are to play basketball. Some examples like James Harden, LeBron James. James Hardens NBA contract was only 17 million but his Adidas contract was 200 million. LeBron James NBA contract is 22 million and his Nike Contract is 500 million. The one thing about the deals though is that they cannot wear another brand from what they sponsor or the company can take their contract or give them a fine for doing so. I know James harden got into a lot of trouble because he wore a pair of Jordan’s one day and he got fined for it but they let him keep his contract. Even though NBA players bring in a lot of money from an athletic stand point the endorsement deals are actually very important to the players.

Its a Brotherhood

Displaying FullSizeRender.jpg
A community that I am apart of is the DCFB community and I am proud of it. In most school you find a group of individuals that jell together as well as us. Everyone is in it for each other and no one wants to see anyone fail. We all want to see each other be successful and get better, not just on the field but in the weight room, the classroom and just in life in general. You will never see one of us let each other quit on something or give up if someone looks like they want to give up they have their brothers there for them encouraging them, helping them and guiding them so that they have the support and back up that they need so that they can get back up on their feet. This community has a very strong bound that we are trying to make even stronger as the days go on. I am proud to say that I joined this community my first year of college I am only a sophomore but the bound that we have makes it feel like I’ve been a part of it for longer than that. It also helps that I’ve been a starter on the team for both of my years so when I really think about it I’m one of the big brother of the community because even though I’m only a sophomore people in my position group look up to me for help and look to me for guidance to make them a better player and also a better student in the classroom it is my duty to make sure they are going to classes and making sure that they are doing what they are supposed to do in the class which involves showing up on time and turning in their work on top and not being late for practice or film sessions. These first two years I haven’t had to step up in the group and be the leader because we had a senior who was a great leader he didn’t really lead by talking and yelling but he lead by example and I think that’s one of the best ways to learn from someone is by watching them do it and do it right just because someone yells and screams doesn’t mean that they are always doing everything right and that was the thing with Cody Wilson he didn’t always scream or yell but he lead by example and by doing things right .Seeing that I’m one of the oldest and I’ve been a starter for both years I have to fill in that role and be the leader for the group now and by playing next to Cody and seeing what it takes I think that I am ready to take on that role and be the big brother for the group. You will never see one of us let down or disappoint one another because we are truly a brotherhood.

Roller coaster ride

Image result for d'angelo russell

Being an NBA all-star has its perks but not all things are good and gravy. Recently NBA rookie all-star D’Angelo Russell the future of the Los Angeles Lakers faces a crisis. Sources told ESPN that Russell’s teammates trust for him is eroding after a video surfaced showing Russell recording a private conversation between him and his teammate Nick Young. Although Russell was recording Nick did not know that he was recording and in the video they were discussing private information about how nick was having multiple relations with different women. Although it’s not clear how the conversation got surfaced this almost immediately caused problems with the team on and off the court. On the court the team has been struggling drastically, getting beat by the Utah Jazz by 48 points. This loss was tied for the worst loss in Lakers history.

How I ended up in jail

Image result for jailSo all of a sudden I get a funny smell that comes across my nose, it wasn't a pleasant smell like my moms pancakes in the morning it smelled more like armpits and fart. So I get up pacing back and fourth in my cell I feel things moving around in my pocket. As I reach in my pocket I find five things. One of those things was a was a bloody tissue, so I panic and start to search my body for any cuts or bruises but I didn't have any so I was a little confused, the second thing that I pull out is a receipt from chik-fil-a so I must have got hungry and went to go get food, the third thing I pull out of my pocket is a ticket from the dry cleaners, the fourth thing that I pull out of my pocket was a phone number but for some reason I cant remember who's number it is, so when they give me my phone call that's the number that im gonna call to see if they know anything about the night before, finally the fifth thing that I pull out of my pocket is a piece of gum don't know why a piece of gum. So a couple of hours go by and they give me my phone call, so I call that number that was in my pocket and my mother picks up the phone, so I ask her what happened and she explains everything to me. Apparently I got into a fight with some dude who came up to her and grab her but when I told her I didn't have any bruises she told me that he didn't even hit me and that I just plain out whooped his ass and the reason I had the bloody tissue was because I got to worked up in the moment, and the reason that I had the dry cleaner ticket and the chik-fil-a receipt was because we had just just got done eating and dropping off clothes. The only reason the police brought me to jail was because I wasn't cooperating because of how mad I was so they brought me to calm me down for the night. After my mother explained everything she said that she will be on her way to pick me up.
